SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM
School based mentoring with a lifetime impact.
Positive, consistent role models and life long friends.
We are focused on fostering positive change in our local youth and providing them with the skills needed to succeed and be happy in life. Mentoring provides our youth with positive and sharing relationships that they can depend on for support and guidance.
School Based, One-to-One Youth Mentoring Program
Friends Forever Mentoring (FFM) is an evidence-based best practice program that facilitates lifelong impact for mentees and mentors alike. FFM, with the help of mentors, creates a safe and trusting environment where healthy relationships can develop and flourish into true friendships. Mentees are supported and encouraged to try new things on their own and within a time that is comfortable for them free from bullying or pressure to fit in by making risky choices.
FFM works in partnership with Arlee High School students mentoring at K-6 Elementary Schools and Ronan High School students mentoring at K. William Harvey Elementary. Elementary student mentees are referred into the program by teachers and school counselors and matched to high school students with whom they are most compatible. Matches meet weekly; sessions begin with lunch, then bonding through indoor and outdoor activities such as board games, arts and crafts projects, shooting hoops and playground time together.
New Programs Added to Meet Growing Needs in Community
SUMMER MENTORING PROGRAM
Summer mentoring program activities promote healthy lifestyles, team-building as well as culture and tradition for youth and families, through arts and crafts, STEM hands-on activities, physical recreation and prevention and intervention exercises. These 3-4 hour weekly sessions include meals and have expanded to serve 8 sites in 6 communities across the Flathead Reservation.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Designed to promote academic achievement, self-esteem, social competence and self-advocacy as well as to help reduce risky behaviors among high school youth, our Youth Leadership Program fosters safe and reliable relationships between at-risk high school youth and caring adult mentors. Mentors help youth achieve their goals and future endeavors through on-going guidance, support and trainings geared towards developing healthy life, leadership, relationship, coping, communication and self-advocacy skills. Students set short-term goals with an incentive of their choosing agreed upon by their mentor to help reward progress.
